Nightmares - Eren Jaeger x Reader

“AHHH!!” You sat up so quickly you had no time to breathe. Once you were sitting up, you were breathing a little too heavily.

Looking around you in a daze, you tried to pull yourself back to reality. You were in your room. The moonlight streamed in through the window as you slowly took back control of your breathing. Pacing your breaths, you slowed your heart rate down, slower and slower. You let your head fall to your hands and allowed a few tears to slither down your cheeks. Clenching your teeth, you fought back a heart-wrenching sob. The tears still came but you tried not to make any further noise.

You didn’t want to draw attention to yourself, not now. Not in the middle of the night. What would the Corporal say? You didn’t even want to imagine about what Levi would do to you for being weak.

Continuing to slow your breath, you lay back down on the soft comfort of your bed and stared at the ceiling. You watched the shadows dance over the roof.

So calm. So…free.

You turned your head to the right and your eye caught the Wings of Freedom symbol on your emerald green cloak. You turned your head back and felt another couple of tears fall across your cheeks. Letting out a few loud sniffs, you turned on your side. The tears were falling heavier now. You cuddled up in a ball and hugged yourself, trying to lull yourself back to sleep. You closed your eyes and felt exhaustion take over you…




You saw them.

Your teammates…

You were a part of the recon mission outside of the wall that was to gather information about the Titans. So were your friends with whom you had befriended while at the training corps. You had been lucky enough to be placed in a team with them and would be willing to lay down your life for them as they would for you.

After the first wave of a massive Titan attack, you were ordered to retreat back to the city. You fired the 3DMG gear onto the nape of the Titan’s neck and sliced it with ease, killing it. With the help of Eren and Mikasa, you took out quite a few Titans before continuing to ride back to the city. It wasn’t until you were no more the five minutes from the wall when you saw it happen.

A small group of 14 meter class Titans had grabbed your friends, one by one, and devoured them. You felt your stomach twist into a knot and anger take over your body. You were about to slaughter the Titans before you were ordered by Levi to retreat.

You screamed their names. But it was already too late.


They were gone.



Gone…

“…ah…Ahh!! NO!!” You shot up again.

How long had you been asleep? It felt no more than five minutes. All you could see were the faces of your friends and all you could feel were the tears running down your face and your heart sinking in grief. You curled up and buried your head in your arms and cried.

That was when you heard a soft knock at the door. You lifted your head slightly and turned it towards the door. There was the knock again, soft as snow.

It was careful, gentle, caring.

Hurriedly, you wiped any escaping tears from your eyes and quickly approached the door. You opened it slightly, just enough to peek out and greet the person behind it. You were met with soft turquoise eyes that screamed concern. You opened the door fully so he could see it.

Eren Jaeger.

He placed his hands on your shoulders, careful not to be too rough as if he was afraid you would break right in front of him.

“I heard you yell. Is everything alright, ______?”

“Y-yeah…it’s just…everything’s…I’m…” You couldn’t take it. You leaned against his chest and started crying once again.

His arms quickly came up around you and held you close, running his rough hands through your hair as soothingly as he could be. You allowed him to walk inside your room and the two of you stood in the middle of the room, hugging. He rested his head on top of yours and you wrapped your arms around him as tightly as you could without hurting him. The tears had almost run out before you were only breathing heavily now. He was holding you tighter now.

“I’m sorry, Eren…” you apologized to him.

“Hey, it’s alright. You had to get it out. I didn’t mind at all,” he answered back into your hair, “Do you want to talk about it?” His eyes were filled with genuine concern when you leaned back to look into them.

You walked back over to your bed and he followed you. Both of you sat down on the edge of your bed and he pulled you against him. Leaning your head on his shoulder, you couldn’t help but let out a small blush run across your cheek. You had always admired Eren. He was strong, brave and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind.

“I haven’t been sleeping well since last week. You know, when…that happened. I keep having nightmares and seeing their faces…I wake up in a cold sweat and in tears. I don’t know what to do or think anymore. It feels like I haven’t slept a wink and I’m constantly on the verge of breaking down.” You let it all out. You spoke your mind to let the weight fall off your shoulders.

Eren pulled you closer and you wrapped your arms around his waist. His left hand snuck around your waist and the right went underneath your legs. Before you could question him, he had placed you lying down on your side on your bed.

“W-what are you-“

“Shh. You need to rest,” he whispered to you, his voice sending warm chills down your back and making your stomach quiver, “I’m going to be right here if you need anything. Anytime during the night, alright?” Eren climbed into your bed next to you and held you close. You could feel the warmth he was putting out and it seemed to calm your mind right down. You slowly closed your eyes and began to drift off into sleep while in Eren’s arms.

You awoke with a start. It happened again. You keep seeing the same damn vision over and over again.  You shot up again for the third time that night with panic racing through your mind. However, this time it felt a little weirder than before. You looked down to see a strong arm wrapped around your waist and a rough but soft and gentle hand resting atop of your thigh. You looked behind you and saw a sleeping Eren.

He looked so peaceful. You hoped you hadn’t startled him or woken him up. It took your mind a second to figure out why he was sleeping next to you, but then you remembered. He had heard you call out in your sleep before and wanted to make sure you were alright. You softly slid back down under the covers of your bed and curled up against him. He was so warm. Was it possible for someone to be this warm without having a fever? Apparently so. You cuddled a little bit closer to him and rested your hand on his waist. He felt this and stirred slightly before opening his beautiful turquoise eyes. He reached up with his hand that was resting on your thigh and you instantly missed the feeling of his hand being there. He pushed some stray hair out of your face and cupped your cheek. You fought back a tear and leaned into his touch.

“You alright? I heard you wake up.” Shit. So he did hear you.

“Yeah, I’m fine…” you felt his hand tuck a lock of hair behind your ear and you went crimson red in the face as he did this.

Using the hand on your face, he pulled your face closer to his. You didn’t comprehend what was happening currently but quite frankly you didn’t care. You needed a distraction as soon as possible and Eren was all too willing to provide it.

“Do you know why I came here tonight?” You shook your head but urged him to continue and finish what he wanted to say.

“I came here for two reasons. One, I wanted to make sure you were alright because I know what you’re going through. Two, I couldn’t bear to lose you. You are one of the people in my life who can always make me smile and laugh. If I didn’t have you, I don’t know where I’d be…w-what I’m trying to say is…I love you. I always have. Ever since the first day I met you at the training corps orientation day.” His words were shaky towards the end and you couldn’t help but smile warmly at him.

You allowed his hand to pull your face closer before his lips met yours. His lips were softer than you imagined. Melting into the kiss, you let out a soft sigh as his hand cupping your cheek tangled itself in your (h/c) locks. Before you knew it, the two of you were sitting upright and you had slid your arms around his neck, holding him close. Your lips moved in sync, almost as if you two were made for each other. Eren pulled you into his lap and moved to kiss your neck. He nipped and sucked at the tender flesh until he found that spot that made you grip the shaggy dark locks of his brown hair and tilt your head back to give him better access.

“I love you too, Eren…” you whispered to him as he pelted your neck with kisses, biting down on the skin occasionally.

He pulled back up and placed a deep kiss on your lips. You kissed him back with as much passion before pulling away and resting your head on his shoulder. He did the same and the two of you held each other close before slipping underneath the covers of your bed and drifting off into sleep again. His left arm held you close by your waist and while his right hand resumed its previous place on your thigh, tracing circles on it and rubbing it soothingly. You closed your eyes and held Eren close to you, never wanting to let go. You didn’t want this moment to end. Eren softly kissed your forehead and placed a chaste kiss on your lips before shutting his eyes and let sleep take over him.

And for the first time in an entire week, the only person you saw in your dreams was a certain turquoise eyed boy name Eren Jaeger.
